I'm Alive...

Posted by tlsound on September 13, 2008 at 1:15 PM

A few weeks ago, my 66th birthday came and went, and increasing age and decline in health recently has prompted me to share my experiences and events in my career over the decades in Pittsburgh. It's been over 20 years since I've left the Pittsburgh area to go to Phoenix for the syndication of my show. Let me first say, I have never in the past 20 years released any CDs, reissued any of my Music For Young Lovers albums or authorized the issue of any material that I produced. It's stunning how people feel they have a right to use pieces of my life, my name, my work, what I created from my imagination without any regard to how I or my family would feel. Now that I have that off my chest, for the last several years I have enjoyed going through old radio shows, TV shows, and transferring my record collection to CD. I want to share the fun that I've had putting these together - of the 60's - when many of us were young and idealistic. Some of the projects I'm working on are transferring my record collection to CD, pulling all the photographs from the 60's and 70's for a book that I am in the process of writing, and editing radio specials that I produced in 1969 on various Pittsburgh groups including the Jaggerz, Vogues, Racket Squad, DeeJays, Swamp Rats, etc. Also, I'm working on a Skyliner special that I produced at the network studios in Phoenix with Jimmy Beaumont in 1988.

I also want you to know that I have no computer skills whatsoever, and my wife and family are helping me set up and operate this website. Thanks for all their help

-TL

TL: You were way ahead of your time and a major part of our past memories..many of us are far away from McKeesport now in many ways, but whenever I am able to talk to my friend Dick Newton, the stories of the past come alive again.....we may be getting older in body but your effort here will help keep our minds young..thanks

The internet has allowed me to reconnect with many Pittsburghers who share my passion for the 1960-1975 era of music, since I had moved away to Silicon Valley, CA. to pursue work some years ago.

Its great to remember the good old days of radio and music. Looking forward to those CDs of the best music of all time.

As a fan who seldom missed a show and who collected most of the 45s of the garage rock and music for young lovers, and replayed these songs at many of the small Pgh dances, sock hops and on WPGH (Pitt Radio) its a great pleasure to connect to one of the greatest DJs of all time bar none.

BK
Hi Terry!

I looooooooooooooooooooooove you and your music!
I must have died and gone to heaven when I found this website!! I fell in love to your "Music for Young Lovers" Volume II record in 1969. I listened to you every night that you were on(of course I was only 17 at the time). I always wondered what had happened to you and I occassionally pull out my album and relive those precious times. Recently, I found a station that plays all of the great music from yesteryear and they at least a couple of times a week play one of your records from the Music for Young Lovers portion. The disc jockeys wonder where you are now and talk so highly of you! Will you pllease put all of your music on CD's so that we can enjoy your music & shows for a long time to come?

Beans of D & J Records told me you moved to rural
Ohio and had heart problems, if so I hope you are well. I always wondered why you didn't get your Music out, some guy from Atlanta sells 6 of your LP's on cd.
Regardless, market your stuff and there will be many buyers .You once said 1966 was one of your best years, it was mine also.
Greeting from Ft Myers, Fl, Porky is 50 miles north of us in Englewood, Fl.

Terry: Your "TL Sound" and "Music for Young Lovers" was the best thing ever on radio. I'm (nearly) embarrassed to tell you how many make-out sessions occurred in my '63 Plymouth parked out near Kennywood with your show providing the romantic interlude. Your "Nite Train" club was my favorite desitination as a teenager living in West Mifflin. Boy, those girls from McKeesport and Glassport sure were hot! Many thanks to you for providing us with a nice place to spend a Friday and Saturday night for a $1.25!

I was in McKeesport one afternoon -- probably in the late '60's or early '70's -- and came to an intersection were somebody had just smashed into your sports car. I maybe wrong but I remember you having a blue Maserati. In any case, you were plenty angry with the person who wrecked into your car but I remember how cool you were about the whole situation.

I'm ashamed to tell you that I purchased some CD's with recordings of your radio show and "Music for Young Lovers" off the Internet. This had to be about 4 years ago. I bought them off the same guy who I think was spreading the rumor about you being in Ohio. Your pictures -- in poor quality -- are in the CD case and on the CD itself. I am sorry that I was a part of someone ripping off your image and your sound. I hope to make it up to you by buying your CD's.

All the best to you, Terry. You were an important part of my past and it's fantastic to know that you're still with us. Thanks for your talent and for bringing us the greatest music ever. Thanks for being Terry Lee!!!

Terry - I am glad you are back on the air at WLSW! I've done fill-in work for Stan there for over 10 years, and from Day 1 a listener recognized my voice from working for you at WRUA. I was asked if I could get you back on the air at WLSW, and have had that question asked of me over and over. I would have loved to have you call in back then to talk about the music. Of course, I had nothing to do with your return, I had no idea where you were! But I am so glad you finally made it.

I learned so much from you during the time I worked at WRUA - about the music and the artists. And yes, I do remember all those stories you shared about the artists and people who made that music happen. Yes, I should have taken notes for your book!

I hope you are well and wish you continued success with your project to keep all these great sounds and memories alive! Thanks for coming back home!

Always had a great time at the nite train, it was just a short ride from Glassport. Good luck with this and can't wait to hear the music again.

Terry,
My brother just sent me your site. It has brought tears to my old eyes. Oh what beautiful times they were!!! To bad we appreciate them the most when they are gone. I got a young man's mind trapped in an old man's body. I want to dance all night but my knees ain't quite right no more. I want to party real hard but I pulled somethin working in the yard.

You must convince the station to get internet streaming voice. There is a whole lot of people who are out of the area who are interested in hearing your Saturday night show.

I often wonder how our kids today, can possibly fall in love....... without TL and Music for Young Lovers! Great to see you on this site as well as syndicated radio broadcasting in McKeesport!!! You're bringing tears to my eyes, not only for the memories of your McKeesport show, but the sweet memories of my late husband and drummer for the Fantastic Dee Jays. Stay well and keep the magic alive!!!!
Best regards,
Joyce J.

A friend of mine was on the Terry Lee dance show back in the late 70's. I was able to view a 35 second spot on YouTube. Are there other copies out there of the actual shows in their entirety? Thanks for any help you can provide.
Sincerely,
Jim
gymbob1964@aol.com
